Matt Bedell

If you were to slow down and be fully present at this moment, what are you thinking or feeling? What brought you to this page? Sometimes we spend so much time thinking about what’s next or trying to run from the painful past we forget about this moment we are experiencing. Yet slowing down and being present is the only place anxiety can’t exist; only the physical symptoms exist, and even then, when we can resolve the tension, we can see what’s going on much more clearly.

Try this quick skill; think of either a past moment that was cringy or a future stressful event. Now back in this moment, what muscles are tense? Take a deep breath and exhale the tension while you relax those muscles. You just experienced a briefly anxious moment that you resolved once you noticed your tight muscles and settled again. There’s a science to all of that!

In treatment, I utilize interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and Logotherapy. They are all evidence-based to treat mental health, social anxiety, addiction and promote wellness.

Within each session, I hope to provide value to your time and investment in yourself. I do that through three stages;

  • Rapport: First, let’s trust and understand what you want relief from and how we will know that is happening.

  • Challenges: Let’s clarify expectations and consider the stage of change you are in, find what blocking beliefs are getting in the way, and create custom challenges to confront our fears with bravery and courage.

  • Intentionality: Learn skills that can build self-worth, cultivate joy, and feel inspired. Be curious about yourself yet decisive in what you do with your time, thoughts, and emotions. Evaluation is a tool to find growth areas, but criticism is a shame creating judgment. Which is which? Begin today to find relief.
